The Sofa, and then some

Oct 05

Well, we finally got to go sofa hunting Saturday. We went every place we could within a 30 mile radius. I will now be very impatient for the end of this month to get here. We ended up buying a sofa, sofa table, and a coffee table. And hopefully after Christmas we can get a bigger TV and the entertainment center that matches the rest of it. We bought from Bassett. I have never purchased anything from them before. I am keeping fingers crossed that they are not like Levitt’s or any of the other cheap furniture chains. They didn’t appear to be.

We looked at many different styles. We went out with the intention of getting something in leather. And we found the perfect one in a leather specialty store, but it was about $2000 more than we wanted to pay.  Angus was very good about the whole thing, not one complaint. He actually spotted the sofa we ended up getting. It’s a Mission style Sofa. I have always loved Mission furniture. My dream home is a Frank Lloyd Wright style house by the beach. Give me that and I will be a very happy woman!

Oh, the customers that I got up at 4 AM for, they changed their freaking minds and went in later in the day to change what they bought. After Angus left. So all that and he gets a small kick back of the commission. I have a good mind to call that lady and tell her I WANT MY BOW BACK!

Sunday I was treated with Champagne in bed and then Angus took us all out to brunch. It was the first time the whole family has gone someplace together in almost a year I believe. And then Angus did some unpacking and organized our closet a little more. And to show my appreciation for the extra furniture (that I really wasn’t expecting) the champagne in bed, and the brunch....... I bought some Maine Lobsters and clams and cooked him a real New England Lobster Dinner. What a way to end what turned out to be a very nice weekend.

PS. I got my girly nails back today...... and pretties on my toes too!

Some People Suck

Oct 02

Some people really suck. Like these customers that I went and got this big ass bow made to put on the truck the wife bought for her husband for their anniversary. And woke up at four freaking AM to help Angus deliver it so it would be a surprise!

They were suppose to be in at 10 AM to finish up on some paperwork. It’s 11:40 and they are still not there! Angus called, but no answer. They better be on the way there. They have already cut into my Sofa time once before, when I went to have to big ass bow made.

I am pissed let me tell you!

Missing Family

Oct 02

I am really starting to miss some of my family again. I think it has been two years since I was back there. My cousin called me late last night and we talked for a while. I didn’t get to see her when I was back the last time, so it has been over five years since I have seen her. We talked a lot about the past and our very loved and missed relatives that have died and how it has changed and shaped our lives. I myself Know that if my Nana and Aunt were still alive I would not be living 3000 miles from them.

We cried a little and laughed a lot. I miss her terribly. And I think she needs me right now. She has a very hard time in the winter months, and they are fast approaching. We also talked about the responsibility that the family laid on me to keep them all together and close. And I told her a secret. I told her that was one of the main reasons I left home. And she cried floods of tears, and so did I.

I am thinking that a visit is in my near future. But probably not until after all the holidays. I have another secret and it bothers me. I don’t miss my Mother, or even my siblings. I miss my cousin, my nieces and nephews and one friend. And it make me feel guilty.

My Motivation Sucks?

Sep 29

The move in is going very slowly here, mostly because of my back. And well, I guess my motivation lately hasn’t been great either. Angus has been pretty good about it. He isn’t complaining about all the boxes still to be weeded through and unpacked. He even moved them all into the garage for me on his day off. We want/need new stuff. And I think that is part of my motivation problem. We really NEED a new sofa. There is really only a couple of decoration type things that I want to keep and work around. The rest can go!

The kitchen is about 3/4 way there. I started slowly in the last house replacing the his/hers things and replacing them with new “Our” things. The only thing left to buy appliance wise is a new coffee pot to match the rest of the new things. We have gone with the brushed chrome and black look. The fridge, stove and dishwasher are white though, can’t do anything about those seeing how we rent. But actually it looks nice. Keeps it from looking to industrial and cold. The cabinets are a medium cherry finish, which I think complements the chrome/black look and gives it warmth.

I am really hoping to be able to get the new sofa before Christmas. Angus hasn’t really given me any kind of a clue as to when we will be able to though. He just agrees that we need to. And I did tell him that that’s part of the reason I have no motivation to decorate. Does that make sense? I don’t even want to put my curtains up, which I absolutely love, because I don’t want it to influence what I pick out for a sofa. But I have this $500 dollar picture he worked his butt off in trade to have put together for me, that matches my color theme in those curtains.

Oh, listen to me babble about color schemes and curtains when there are starving children, and men and women over seas fighting a war! Yeesh, I need to get a job and get a life.

Someday!

Sep 28

I might actually be able to blog again! Between my back, time, and this blog acting wonky it seems imposable. Now the spell check I installed doesn’t work! I think I should give up and just blow up my computer for good. But hey, at least for now the blog is working! It is now noon time and I have yet to get my butt in the shower. So hopefully tomorrow it will still be working and I will have time. Not that there is much to blog about these days. Just unpacking, moving things around etc..

Nothing

Sep 22

Really nothing to say, just posting because I can, finally! Someone should make spell check for these things. Make a real post later. I have a lasagna to make to kick of the first day of autumn, it’s only going to be in the 90’s here today!

Reflecting

Sep 16

I just went back and read all my previous posts. A lot has changed, or feels like it for the moment anyway. Angus and I have not had a single argument or disagreement since we moved. Which feels good! But, yet again I do sit back waiting for my little bubble to burst, cause it always does ya know. We are far from settled in to our new place. My back is trashed again. Angus has been working day and night since we moved. He took a day and a half off to get us moved and this past Tuesday, that’s it. He has promised to take this weekend off to help me get boxes moved upstairs and in the garage. The kitchen and our bedrooms are about 90% done, just odds and ends to organize.

The kids are all settled in their new schools, and love them. There are already a bunch of kids here all their ages, well no teenagers Sophie’s age yet. She seems to really like her new school a lot better than her old one. It’s a lot less crowded, the classes are smaller, and they have two lunch periods so she actually has time to eat whatever she has bought. They have 4 periods instead of 6 (but changing next year) which means longer class time and can cover twice as much in a semester. Her new counselor is really great too. He has already told her she is going to have a very laid back senior year because of all the credits she already has and will accumulate this year. She will be well over what she needs to graduate with. She is now starting to believe what I told her about loading up the classes freshman and sophomore year while there is not much going on, and just in case she doesn’t get a good grade, she will have room to make it up in the future with out summer classes. So far so good. As long as she keeps it up this year she is clear sailing.

Well I should probably attempt to get a couple of things done around here while my back is feeling ok. I am stranded with out a car today, the kids can all walk to school or bus stop. WOO HOO!
