THEY SAY THE DARNEDEST THINGS
Ok, I don’t know if darnedest is even a word. But we say it all the time.
I was in the cleaning the kitchen a couple of days ago and Zoe (just turned 13) was chatting away telling me all about her day at school, as she does everyday, and very matter of fact like she asks, Am I aloud to hang around people that like boys? I just about crushed the glass that was in my hand. And I so couldn’t keep from laughing. Now I know we are pretty strict with the girls about dating and even hang with boys, but sheesh, I didn’t think we were that bad!
So I told her that yes she was, and that liking boys was not a bad thing. But she is just to young to be kissing them! She let out such a sigh of relief, like the weight of the world just fell off her shoulders, and said...... Few, cause Brittney does and I felt kinda guilty playing with her.
Now by this time it is a family discussion. Angus is beside himself trying not to say what he REALLY wants to.Which is, NO NO NO, liking boys is BAD BAD BAD. And keeps it to, you are just to young to be KISSING THEM. All the while Aidan is like, well that’s a relief cause you’ve had a crush on, this one, that one and this one. He starts naming them off his little fingers! Dear Gawd, did she bribe him this past year or so not to say anything? Because he certainly new all of them.
So after things wind down, Angus and I have a good laugh shake our heads and just can’t get over the fact that she really thought that she couldn’t even LIKE boys.Where on earth did that on come from?
