Unrequited love and a resolution

So. It’s a good thing I took my little package of tissues to the play tonight. I had to use them.

The cast did a superb job and their performance was very moving. They’re entering the state drama contest sometime in the next few weeks—performing this play. I think they stand a really good chance. Their drama teacher drives me nuts, but she has taught them well and I give her huge credit. This production is a jewel in her crown, certainly.

After the play, the cast and friends went out to Friendly’s for food and fun. The lad told me he’d be home around 10:30 or so. What I didn’t expect was to see a girl walking in the door with him when he came home. Good thing Mom wasn’t in her jammies.

Well, call me amused. This boy has wimmen problems. The one who walked in the door with him tonight has been a very good friend, but has also had designs on him for some time. I’ve known it for as long as she has, but the lad was oblivious. Until I broke it to him. Gently.

Concurrently, he has been pining for another girl who has the same problems with obliviousness. Of course, asking her out on a date would be the logical way to settle the matter, but the thought leaves him weak in the knees. So he pines and the one downstairs with him now is throwing him poorly concealed looks of loooove. Which I’m sure haven’t gone unnoticed. Sheesh. I had to leave the room.

I hope they all get this straightened out pretty soon, one way or the other. There’s just too much unrequited affection flying loose around here.

On a more uplifting note, the principal made his decision and the lad’s Spanish teacher announced, today, that the students who didn’t finish their exam could take a revised exam or accept a C for their exam grade. She warned that the new exam would be hard, so they should think it over carefully. Next week is winter vacation, which gives them a week to mull it over. The lad will be spending it in Ponce, Puerto Rico where Spanish should be rather present in his mind all week. The decision is his to make and I have no idea where he’s at with it right now. But, the resolution is fair and I’m quite satisfied with it. I think it also gave the teacher a graceful way to maintain some control over the situation. Whichever way he decides, it’s a heck of a lot better than an F by default.
