Two down, one to go

Wellll, it’s Monday. And what better way to start the week than to get in the shower and discover that there is no hot water.
Last evening the lad complained about the water temperature when he took his shower. He wondered if I’d turned the hot water temp down in my never ending quest to save energy. Well yes, I had a couple of months ago, but not that much. I just assumed that not using any hot water during the day had meant that the tank hadn’t heated in a while. That happens from time to time. Guess not.
Now, ordinarily I’m a relatively able fix-it person when it comes to small matters like pilot lights and stuff, but I can’t find the pilot light on this hot water tank. It’s encased tighter than a drum. Since the tank is only 5 years old (time flies!), I’d assume that it’s a little early in its life for it to be breaking down and there are no puddles around it, so I hope it’s only the pilot light that went out—though I don’t know why it would. It’s in a protected spot with no drafts.
I know that last week I complained about wasting water and thought about other more efficient water heating options, but ya know, I hadn’t really planned on shelling out wads of dough for a new hot water heating device the following week, especially not on the heels of an expensive car repair.
Oh well. I have a call in to the plumber. As I recall, I still have a credit with that particular plumber for one house call, so that’s a good thing. But still. Not exactly a happy homeowner right now. Following the law of threes, I tremble to think what’s next.
