To rain or not to rain....

There are tropical storm warnings posted for the southern part of the state now. Beryl is churning northward. It should start to weaken soon...the water is still pretty cold up here. I don’t know whether we’ll get any rain out of it, maybe a little. At this point, that would be a good thing. Things are starting to look a little crispy around here. The churning seas and beach erosion we could do without, but that doesn’t even seem to be too bad right now. Less than with a standard nor’easter (so far), anyway.
Not that I should take it personally, but every time I plant a tree, the rain stops. My poor little baby redbud trees are constantly thirsty and although they appreciate the water I feed them, it’s not the same quality as rain. Something about rain makes everything perk up and grow like mad. The water from the hose simply seems to sustain the plants until the next rain.
And something is munching on the redbud leaves. I haven’t caught the culprit yet, but it surely has been enjoying the feast. I can’t find one leaf that hasn’t been chewed up. If these bugs wanted to endear themselves, they could start dining on weeds. That would be nice! How come bugs don’t like weeds?!
