Sweets for the wicked

Last evening I bought myself a little treat in the form of a bag of heart shaped, cherry-flavored lollipops. The Valentine’s Day display was up in the local drugstore and I’m a sucker for cherry flavored sweets. I brought the bag home and plopped it in the basket on my desk, then ran out to pick up the lad. I wasn’t gone more than 15 minutes.

When we came home, the lad ran upstairs and I wandered into the kitchen. The shriek that I let out brought the lad galloping back down the stairs to see what the trouble was. He took in the picture of me standing there holding an empty bag and a few denuded lollipop sticks and Terry standing there with chunks of cherry candy stuck to the sides of her mouth. In the space of 15 minutes, she managed to get every last lollipop out of its individual wrapper, and chew the candy off the sticks. There wasn’t one lollipop left.

And what did the lad do? He laughed. And laughed until he had to hold his sides because the look on my face and the extreme guilt on Terry’s face (with the candy still stuck to the sides of her mouth) were too funny for words.

I can see the humor in the situation now. But I sure as heck wasn’t laughing last night. Wretched dog ate my lollipops before I got to have a single one.
