The reason why I was cruising the internet anonymously was the Microsoft Firewall that comes with Windows Service Pack II. I couldn’t find any overrides so I shut it off. I don’t think I need it anyway with the firewall built into my router. Just in case anyone else wants to know—Google searches indicate that people do.

I’m not sure whether shutting off Windows’ firewall cures the entire problem, but I’m appearing in the referrer scripts on web pages at least. And no, it’s not a vanity thing. I presume other people feel the same or there wouldn’t be so many referrer scripts and site meter/stat recorders out there. It’s nice to know where your visitors come from. This is particularly true of small businesses on the web. I read many complaints from business website owners/webmasters while I searched for the answer to the blocked referrer problem.
