It’s not quite a blizzard out there, but trying awfully hard to be. At times I can’t even see the house across the street. Weather persons say we’re getting about an inch an hour. Sure is piling up fast even though, officially, we’re only supposed to get about 4 inches from this storm. We passed that a couple of hours ago. So far, no revised forecasts, so I have no idea how much we’ll end up with.

The lad’s employer called a half hour ago and wondered if he could come in early today. Evidently there have been a few no-shows. I’m thinking a dog sled would be a useful conveyance, but suppose I’ll manage to get him there without it. There won’t be much competition on the streets. It’s like a ghost town today. And here I thought it would be a good day to just hunker down and stay inside. Except for the shoveling part, of course. The shovel and I are really bonding this week.

But, by Thursday, winter will be over and spring will return. If the weather persons can be believed—they’re saying temps in the 60s by week’s end. Can you imagine? In New England? In January?!? We could, possibly, call that our January thaw, except we haven’t really had any cold weather yet. Whatever. I’ll take 60 degrees. That’s a No Feed The Wood Stove day! And that’s a good deal because I’ll need to let it burn out so I can clean the ashes out. It’s getting crowded in there.

I did go out to fill the bird feeders this morning. Figured the birds would like to have a meal when they come out of hiding. So far, though, not a bird in sight, which is rare. They are laying low today. I wonder how they manage during a heavy snow storm if they don’t come out to eat? Without eating regularly throughout the day, they have a hard time maintaining their body warmth. I miss their bouncy little selves and the food fights.

All in all, a quiet day with little excitement, which kind of shows in blog entries. Unless, of course, one wants to consider the conversation with the next door neighbor’s landlord this morning. He’s like a bad penny...just keeps turning up. Can’t make him go away. But no. I’m not going there today. Gotta save something exciting for tomorrow. ;)
