Running several errands this morning, I counted no fewer than a dozen United States flags suffering from all sorts of indignities.  Mud splattered flags, tattered flags, dingy gray flags, sun faded flags, drooping flags hung off the sides of porches with corners puddled in the dirt—there is no excuse for that. Crisp and bright red, white, and blue still send a thrill through me. There’s nothing quite as pretty on a sunny day against a bright blue sky. But dingy, ripped, and mud splattered is wrong. If you’re flying a flag, take a critical look at it and replace it if it’s not in pristine condition. Please.
