Cider Press Hill

You will be surprised to hear....

Monday, 3:11 pm

It’s snowing out. Again. We’ve had our 6 inches so it can stop now.

And, bless his heart, the snow plow guy scooped a huge pile right into the end of my driveway. Nice heavy wet stuff that will freeze into a solid block of ice tonight if I don’t remove it soon. Thank yew Mr. Snowplow man.

The rest of the snow might melt in the near-ish future. We’re having intermittent March daily temps and the sunshine is much warmer these days. So, there is hope that spring might arrive sometime in the next couple of months.

I was reading a lawn care manual yesterday. It said that I should be outside putting down lime and fertilizer and sprinkling grass seed this week. The earlier the better. That made me laugh. There is at least a foot and a half of snow still on my yard in the places where it didn’t drift to three and four foot piles. We’ve now added another half a foot with more coming tomorrow. I am absolutely positive that, underneath all that snow, the weeds are waking up and preparing to make a run for it at the earliest opportunity. I wish the grass was as determined.

I’d read somewhere that throwing grass seed directly onto the snow is supposed to be effective. Apparently as the snow melts away, it deposits the seed onto moist, receptive ground. Maybe so, but it would seem to me that the seed would look too inviting there on the white snow for most of the birds in the neighborhood to resist.

Sending warmer days your way.

well considering I have been throwing seed out on the snow all winter so my cat can be entertained by the birds, I guess Pablo’s idea would not work here!!  Yeah, 6” here too Kate--and do the damn weather people have to look so cheerful.  Yesterday I sat out on the steps with a book and was barefoot, today I had a winter coat and boots.  ANd more to follow.  *!!@* scared

I, too, would think the birds would find the seed too good to pass up. In principle, it sounds like a good idea. But, by the time the snow melted, I’d have no idea how much, if any, had survived. I’ll wait a bit. As it is, it’s a fight to the finish with the mockingbirds who simply adore grass seed.

Cyn, I hear ya. Enough with the snow already. My forecast mentions snow for tomorrow and Wednesday, but also a lot of sleet and rain. Let it rain! I’ll take rain. I went out and made sure I shoveled my driveway right down to bare pavement this evening. (Seven inches, my ruler said.) Although I love having the young people show up to shovel for me, I thought it best not to look as if I was hoping.... smile

Uhg, I didn’t shovel yesterday. Have to go out there and do some today. Its just such a mess.
I can’t believe I was out on my deck the day before yesterday looking at GREEN grass. Yes our grass is green. The leaves that I never got around to raking in the fall must have done some good for the grass lol. And um, the moss that grows all around the pine tree is plenty green. Dang, going to be hard to get rid of all that stuff and get grass to grow in those areas I think.
oh and GC2 is going to have her tonsils out on the 26th, with at least another week out of school. Joy O’Joy!! I am going to be living and breathing doctor appointments between now and then. Fun.

Oh boy, you’re going to have a full plate for a while, aren’t you? I’m not surprised to hear about her tonsils, though. After her last bout with it, I wondered if that would come up. Is BC better today?

My driveway is almost dry today. All the snow crumbs are gone and it hardly looks as if it even snowed yesterday. In the driveway, anyway. It’s not melting very fast anywhere else. On my side of the street, at least. I noticed that it looks like we have more snow over here and I suppose that’s because we only get the morning sun on this side and they get the entire afternoon sun over there. It makes a big difference.

No he is not better. Still home with temp. And, and, I am not feel to spiffy this morning myself.
I broke down and went out and shoveled yesterday. Didn’t take to long but it was wet and heavy. Glad I did because the temps are going to drop tomorrow and we would have ended up with lots of ice.
Going to go crawl back in bed while I can. I have to run the both girls to work this afternoon, and E back to work. I wish this dang car would hurry up and get here already!

Temps are supposed to go down into the single digits tomorrow night. Geez. Winter doesn’t want to give up.

Feel better...all of you! And when that dang car arrives, I want a ride!
