Unsolicited text messaging

Tuesday, 11:33 am

This morning, my cell phone rang its distinctive text messaging ring. It’s rare that I receive text messages...usually from the lad to point out that he’s still kicking. I don’t text message very often. In fact, I don’t even have a text messaging plan, per se, on my cell phone account. I’m allowed a minimal number a month (10, I think) before I’m charged for each one. That works fine for me.

Anyhow. I checked the text message and it was from Nicole, telling me that Alyssa had sent me a PM that I should view at a the provided web site address. Now, I don’t know any Nicoles or Alyssas, so it was obviously a misdirected or junk text message.

I was curious, though, and so checked to see what the website was all about. Turns out it’s a site that offers free samples of Viagra and Cialis. Which made me laugh. And, actually, the site did make me laugh a little bit. The models on the page are all under the age of 30 by the looks of it.

The text message raised a couple of questions. First, is there a way to remove oneself from the cell phone marketing free-for-all? If text messaging becomes the newest greatest way to advertise stuff, it’s going to start costing me.

Second, what is the age demographic for the bulk of text messaging? I’m guessing it’s fairly young. Probably not in the general Viagra or Cialis age demographic. It seems to me that’s a pretty scattershot approach to marketing. But whatever. It got me to look at the website, laugh though I did.

Every once in a while I get a text that is unsolicited and while I do have a text messaging plan, I still don’t want some yahoo using up my minutes........;0 Ithink there is a place to opt out, but not positive.  I am sure one of your fans would know the answer.  A do not call for cell phones.

Yes, the bulk of text messagers is the younger demographic.  Their fingers fly.  I still have to think about it while I do it!!

Happy Spring, Happy April Fool’s Day (tomorrow).  Snow perhaps?  The ultimate Aprl Fool’s??

No snow today. Thank goodness. Just the usual drearies and drizzle. That’s appropriate for the first of April.

Now that the snow has melted, I have discovered new pets! Moles. Or Voles. Not sure which, but they’ve torn the yard up in very attractive patterns. Sigh.

Maybe the hawks could earn their keep for a while, instead of eating my mourning doves. It is true that mourning doves are an easier catch, but I think the hawks owe me for their laziness. Get to work, fellas.

April Fool’s joke today........got a “you are related” notice from Facebook today.....saying I was a 4th cousin of PBO, twice removed or some such thing.  I laughed when I read it and my thought was, that would not bother me at all.  However, when geneaology.com discovered I really AM a cousin a zillion times removed of George Bush (through Mama Barbara) that really bugged me......still does.  LOL

And my word describes it exactly...........MEH!

Wasn’t there something in the news late last year about Obama being related to Dick Cheney? Yeesh, poor guy. I’d rather be related to Dubya, even if it is on Babs’ side. I don’t think I’m related to anyone of note. Maybe the odd Livingston or something, but they were the robber barons of yesteryear. My branch of the family were the poor relations. Figures.
