President Obama
I thought I’d be in a fireworks kind of mood today, but, instead, I’m a blubbery mess. And relieved. And happy. I don’t believe I’ve ever enjoyed an inauguration like this one. My heart was in my throat during that walk down Pennsylvania Avenue, but it was so exciting to see the Obamas responding to the cheering crowds lining the streets.
I wish this day could last and last. All the good will and so forth.
Somewhat annoyingly, Katie Couric has been focused on Michelle Obama’s clothing, noting that she has a great deal of style for someone who doesn’t spend very much money on her clothes. But that’s probably a good thing in these economic times, she opines. But really, how hard will it be for the First Lady to live up to the pressure to carry off her style, etc., etc., etc. Katie makes it sound as if Michelle Obama will be completely done in by 8AM just by standing in front of her closet trying to come up with a stylish outfit every day. Seems to me there are more interesting, if not more important, things to talk about. But that’s our media.
By the looks of things, the mood in Washington is simply ebullient. The city hasn’t seen anything like it a long time. It must an amazing place to be today. But it feels like that in my house, too!
Yes, there was a good bit of breath-holding here as well when Obama stepped out of The Beast. But the warmth and energy of the crowds had to be amazing!
Somehow, I was the first person to put up a DailyKos diary after they started their walk. There can be advantages to watching it on C-SPAN, without those pesky commercials and those blithering “pundits”.
Somehow I ended up doing a haphazard live blog over at my place. I didn’t have that in mind when I woke up.
I had to go to work, but my boss, even tho she is of another party! brought a tv into the office, so between that and watching live coverage on the internet I did not miss much. Had the same reactions as you when they stepped out of the car.........and a big sigh of relief when they got back in........and then they did it again! I was giddy with excitement AND teary all at the same time. They are so refreshing. I am so pleased! And so proud!!
Heard last night late on one of the stations that there was not a single arrest in DC all day! If true, then that just might be a real commentary on the mood of the nation??
OH, and one of the idiots at Fox - one of many - is speculating that Obama may not be President cause of the flubbed (On the chief justice’s part) oath. Moron has no idea that the CLOCK determines the transition, the oath is just a part of the ceremony. Oh well, what else would we expect.
I suppose they were hoping for a miracle.
Leave it to Fox to make a mountain out of a molehill. It was actually kind of charming, in a way. Obama and Roberts handled it well, with a bit a grin.
I wonder if the DC police have sat down to think over why there were no arrests yesterday. Something was different. Hmmm....what might that be?
Doesn’t it feel most excellent to have Dubya and Cheney gone? Although Cheney is still somewhere in the DC suburbs. I wish he’d go back to Wyoming. Or the Hague.
