Cider Press Hill

One thing begets another

Monday, 2:31 pm

We did have snow last night. And the temperatures rose (briefly) four degrees above freezing...not enough to entirely turn the snow to rain. Noooo....there were about 5 inches of heavy, semi-frozen, sleety snow in the driveway this morning. And on the deck and the sidewalks, etc. And the snow plow man gave me an extra gift of about 2 feet of semi-frozen slush mounded up at the end of the driveway. That’s the sight that greeted me upon rising this morning. I thought I’d deal with it after getting a fire started and having a cup of coffee. The house was cold.

But first...a shower.

Except...I forgot. I’d done a load of wash last night and it was still hanging in the shower all soggy-like. Before I could take a shower, I’d have to wring it out some more and hang it down by the wood stove on the laundry rack....except the stove wasn’t on.

And I couldn’t start a fire anyway until I scooped some of the ash out. And I couldn’t do that because the ash bin was full to the brim. Which meant I had to take it outside and empty it in the garden. Which meant I had to put my boots on.

And if I was going to put my boots on, I might as well get bundled up the rest of the way and go shovel snow—which was something I had hoped to put off until...later.

So I put my boots on.

And grabbed the bucket of wood ash so I wouldn’t have to come back in the house with wet feet to get it after I finished shoveling.

By the time I finished shoveling the driveway and the sidewalks and the deck and a place to dump the wood ash, I was hot. Sweaty icky hot.

When I came in, the last thing I wanted was a fire in the wood stove. Mostly I wanted a cup of coffee. It was the best cup ever.

But...the laundry is still hanging in the shower and I haven’t had one yet. The stove is still cold and I’m still warm. The ash bin is empty though.

Now. About that laundry hanging in the shower. Well, we’ll get to that in the next post.

LOL what a morning!
Well things went yesterday, my back is acting up. Yeash. But, But, I do still plan on coming over today! I have a few things to get done this morning, carefully. And a couple small errands to run so, I was thinking late morning, very early afternoon. You just might have to give up your comfy chair for me lol. Or see me stretched in a funny position, or both! I will give you a call when I leave the house to give you time to warning lol. Now I need to get of this chair so I don’t push it!

Just like the laundry, you’ve left me hanging!

We flew to Charlotte, NC on Friday for the weekend for a surprise birthday party for my most favorite cousin (and I have LOTS of cousins).  Anyway, to hear the weather forecasters there, back here was going to be and then was being buried by snow.  I had high hopes of not being able to get out of NC and being able to hang in another day or so.  But, lots of snow to them is just a piddly little amount here so our flights were not only on time, but actually got into Boston early last night (DAMN!!) - but hey, it could have been much worse.

We took the limo into the airport and my car was out in the driveway - (cause our Christmas tree has taken up residence in the garage until the time to bring it in)--so the plow guy plowed sorta, kinda around it which left some lovely icy ridges that I nearly decapitated myself on this morning - I had visions of sliding under the car and no one finding me there til the mail came this afternoon (don’t laugh, it could happen-LOL) but made it to work in basically one piece!!

Have you hit a nice warm shower yet?  Oh wait, your showers are luke warm, huh??

On two other notes.  1.  Hubby about half way through Shock Syndrome and has asked me to buy several copies to send to people.  He is astounded it has not gotten more press, and wishes it would.  (I am number 3 on the list who will read it so have a while to wait).  He only stopped reading on the plane long enough to point out something to me--and some of this should not have come as a surprise to him based on what his job has been.  Hmmmm.

And 2, Charlotte has approximately 80 days left of water if they do not get substantial rain.  Was talking to a woman from Atlanta last night and she said they have 90 days left.  Scary S***, huh??

Some days are like that, Linkmeister. ;)

J, ‘twas a lovely visit! Get better soonest!!

I"ll get to it, Pablo. The laundry, however, is now dry and neatly folded.

Cyn, the weather reports were all over the place. It turned out better for us than for some of the poor souls to the north. They not only got the snow, but the raging howling winds.

YOU must read Shock Doctrine, too. You’ll never see the world through the same eyes again. Ask your husband what he thinks might happen if major cities in the southeast run out of water. It’s called...an opportunity!!

I haven’t heard a single plan yet for what happens if Atlanta or Charlotte or Raleigh run out of water. I don’t think there is one. God help those folks if it happens.

PS...yes, a nice warm shower last night. Warm. Comfortably warm. When the bathroom is 58°, a lukewarm shower just doesn’t cut it. Nope. I’m human, after all.

Funny how things like that happen.  And how often do I go upstairs (usually on the weekends) to realize that I never did get back to making the bed!
