Going nuts

Monday, 5:06 pm

The miracle is—I still have wood in my woodpile. The disgusting part is that I still need to burn it.

We have come to that time of year. I’m going crazy.

There is still a pile of snow on my deck. There is still a thick layer of snow in my front yard, my side yard, and my back yard. And the thing that really rubs is that the yards across the street are BARE. The women across the street have been outside doing YARD WORK. Not that I’m a huge fan of yard work, but at least they don’t have to put their hip boots on to walk across their yards. They even have the occasional green blade of grass to gaze upon. I’ve got...snow.

I want to open my door and smell spring in the air. I don’t want to open the door and get socked with cold air. I want to stop dressing in layers. I want to retire the long underwear and the scarves and gloves.

Getting darned close to certifiably crazy here. I am so not kidding.

Well, I am right there with you baby! Though, almost all of our snow is gone again. Just a few small patches here and there in the yard.
I am going to go crazy if we don’t all stop getting the flu over, and over again. BC was out all last week with it. Then I caught it on Mon. or Tuesday. Just feel better today. Don’t sound it if you talk to me lol. Both girls have it as of yesterday. GC2 I am worried about. She has surgery in a couple of weeks. Thankfully she still is on antibiotics. But still high temps none the less. We are all going to get flu shots next year. E insists on this LOL. He has been running around with his head cut off the past couple of weeks trying to do some of my stuff and work.

On the bright side, I’ve been relatively healthy this winter. Knock on wood. You guys have caught everything going around. Feel better, all of you.

Climates that insist on 6 or 7 months of winter are inhospitable. We are living in one. I need to see colors. Greens, pinks, yellows...anything but the interminable browns and...white. I bought a bright bouquet of flowers a couple of days ago. It helps a little bit. I want to carry it around the house with me and not let it out of my sight.

Okay. You are not helping with the homesickness! I think it is Jan-April that are the hardest to get past.

my word is cyclops, again. Same one as yesterday.

Oh, let me help you out some more!

Winter—seven months of ice and snow. Mostly ice, unless we have a year like this one. Then it’s equal amounts of ice and snow.

Two weeks of discernable spring-like weather, if we are lucky, providing there are no huge nor’easters...maybe one year out of four.

Intensely hot and humid summers with swarms of horse-sized mosquitos that come out at noon and go in at dawn. And green slime that grows on the sides of houses and everything else because nothing EVER dries out. Unless, of course, we have The Drought...in which case, the lawn dies. About once every four or five years.

Three weeks of perfect autumn weather. Providing we don’t get a huge nor’easter. Three weeks to live for!!! And we are often disappointed. But, there’s always next year!!
