Feeling a bit festive
My Christmas shopping is completed. It all appears to be in transit today and the last package should arrive on my doorstep by Friday. Not even a stocking stuffer left to find. I’m done! Whoo! Perhaps the first time ever that I’ve been completely finished this early. Of course, after compiling a list, it only took about 20 minutes to place the orders through Amazon...with one little foray into Steve Jobs’ little domain. Somebody’s gonna have a cool Christmas. I’m envious!!

The front of the house is decorated. All the icicle lights are strung and the kissing balls hung. Along with a couple of wreaths. My neighbor gets so excited about decorating for Christmas. She makes it a lot of fun because she simply radiates happiness during the process. I think we look quite festive. And no inflated characters or whatnot sitting in the front yard. Thank heavens.

I have found the most delicious recipe for gingerbread! It is dark and rich and moist and oh my gosh, just this side of paradise. Maybe one foot over into paradise. There is a half devoured loaf on my counter. The rest may not make into tomorrow, either. I’ll have to make some more. Oh my word, it is so good. A pot of tea and fresh gingerbread on a cold day...life is good, indeed.

Today is a very cold day. With the wind, we were looking at about a 2° wind chill. When outside in it, I can appreciate the wind chill factor. Or not. I had to go outside and reattach and anchor the tarp over the woodpile this morning. The raging wind peeled it off last night, which, fortunately, happened after the snow stopped. Still dry wood. I swear that tarp will not budge an inch now, no matter how the winds howl. I also brought about a week and a half supply of wood in the house. Somewhere around 130 logs, filling two wood racks. The wood may last even longer—we’re supposed to have a couple of days near 60° later this week.

Sometime, in the next week, I’ll be making my annual trek to Pennsylvania to collect the lad. As of yesterday, he hadn’t received his exam schedule, so I’m not sure yet which day I’ll be leaving. Sometime between Friday and the following Tuesday. I’m so happy that the price of gasoline has dropped to a four year low. I filled the tank this afternoon and it cost the grand sum of $16. That means a pretty cheap trip coming up. I can live with that. It will be nice to have the lad home. Very.
i hope you didn’t spend too much on me!
I will probably not even start until a week or so before lol. I used to be done by the first of December when the kids where little. I only waited to buy stuff for the stockings.
No wait, I started already. I have a couple small things I purchased months ago for the girls and a gift card for each child to their favorite stores.
My body was not meant to handle 20 degrees. No it was not.
My word is achilles today. My achilles heel is the Ccccooldddddd.
How much is too much, Pablo?
J, I still haven’t thoroughly warmed up from being out this morning and afternoon. Despite manual labor. Geez, it’s cold. The indoor thermometer says it’s warm in here, but I’m still cold.
I wish I could make the BC walk home from school lol. I so don’t want to go out there again today!
Well, at least it’s above freezing today. A little more sunshine would be nice, but I think it’s gone again for most of the week. According to the current forecast, it’s rain for two days, then snow for two days. I guess winter is here.
Am at work and the phone has not rung ONCE--normally by now, it would have at least 20+ times. Scary. So am bored, so am playing!! Laughed over the top of this post. And yes, it was cold, miserably cold. I had planned to go out for the day on Monday but stuck my nose outside and said no way, no how. So stayed home, shopped online, cleaned and actually accomplished what for me would be a lot! Am nearly done with shopping but problem is, because 80% was done online and early, I am fighting the urge to get MORE. Need my head examined. Found some terrific deals. One place I like for electronics and stuff is comp-u-plus. My son recommended the site to me years ago and I love it!
...and so then the phone rang and someone delivered packages to the door and I lost my train of thought....back to the COLD Monday, I think we have had at least 9 months of weather this week. Today is mid 60’s!! I actually went around and adjusted all the thermostats LOWER this morning before I left for work. Had the slider open for a while this morning until the rain blew in courtesy of the 90mph winds!!
Now cannot see out the windows for all the rain coming down and blowing around. I am refusing to acknowledge the fact that the “S” word is in the forecast.
Two days ago it was 9 degrees outside. Today...63°! This must be New England. Tonight we’re back to sleet and freezing rain and snow tomorrow and tomorrow night. Then sleet and freezing rain and rain again. The weather gods need chill pills.
On the bright side, the tarps on the woodpile stayed put despite the ferocious winds. Hah!
One half of my Christmas loot arrived on the doorstep at noon. The UPS guy wrapped the packages in a thick plastic bag. They would have been drenched clear through between the truck and the house if he hadn’t. The poor guy could have used one himself. He was soaked to the skin.
