Excitement abounds

Wednesday, 6:44 am

At 4:42 AM, this bird cage was loaded onto a FedEx truck in Wilmington, MA and will arrive on my doorstep sometime this morning. It is arriving in two containers which, combined, weigh 119.5 pounds. Because of the weight, I chose the least expensive shipping option, which I think involved forcing it to walk part of the way here. I ordered it a couple of weeks ago and FedEx has certainly been in no rush.

I have been biting my nails with impatience and clicking on the FedEx website every few hours, just in case the containers had moved a few feet. Finally. Today is the day. I am so excited. (And awfully glad that the lad is still here to help me hoist the heavy boxes around.)

I’ve wanted this particular Loro flight cage for my two budgies since last summer and I finally saved enough pennies to buy it. Plus I was fortunate to find a $100 after Christmas clearance sale discount at my favorite outlet. Now my little birdies are going to have a big house with room to spread out. With all the cool toys that I’ve been acquiring for them.

I am going to have such a ball today decorating their new house. It even has a light fixture in the roof for a full spectrum bulb that will bring out their colors and give them a little extra warmth. They’d better like it.

Not that I would be too surprised if Lucy hates it instantly, but I’m pretty sure Dobby will be absolutely delirious. He’s an active boy. They have not lived together in the same cage yet, so there’s always the chance that things might get off to a rocky start. But they’ll have plenty enough room so they can each have their own retreat. They do spend a lot of time smooching through their cage bars, though. We’ll soon see.

I can’t wait to get this set up and the birds installed. Pictures may be forthcoming....

Oh, I am so excited for them! I can’t wait to come over and see it! Is the lad going to be around this weekend. BC is feeling better, I am keeping fingers crossed I don’t catch anything. Had to take GC2 back to the doctors. No strep, so far. Now they are testing her for mono. She went a couple of days with no temp but, it’s back again. She is on her second week of no school. She is on antibiotics now. So hopefully if it isn’t mono (keep fingers crossed please) this will help out. And if it is, we are ahead of the game. At least I don’t have to worry about catching that. I already have the little gene in me! Ya hoo!
Anyway, talk to the lad and give me a buz today or tomorrow so we can make some plans!

I’m not sure what his schedule is for the weekend. When he is conscious, I’ll inquire. He’s going back on the 25th, I think. That or the 24th. So this will be his last full weekend at home.

Poor GC2. I hope it’s not mono, but it does sound suspicious that the fever comes and goes. Is she getting bored yet or does she feel too rotten to care?

I hope the long trip to my front door brings the cage in good condition. Don’t want any dings or bent bars. At least I don’t need tools to put it together. Not exactly sure where I’m going to put it...it’s huge—6 feet high. Oh, happy birdies. And easy for me to maintain. Where’s the FedEx truck???!!

LOL. Are they there yet? Tell the lad not to not make plans if he can. I am feeling sniffley this morning. I am sure I won’t get out of this without at least a bad head cold. Sigh. I am sure I will know by Friday what part of it I will catch. BC is still home today. He is just coughing way to much to send him off to school. He did however swallow his first pill last night. WOO HOO. Makes buying and giving meds sooooooooo much easier! Cheaper too let me tell ya. We gave him a night time flu one and he went right to sleep and slept all night with no coughing. But hacking away this morning. The daytime ones don’t seem to be working as well but, he is coughing a little less now that they are kicking in a bit.

Libby just got a new Pomeranian puppy, and I’m amazed at how much money we’ve been able to spend on it in the last week.

LOL, Pablo. You’re such a softie. How does Max feel about this turn of events? Queequeg is just beautiful. And you don’t mind spending oodles of cash on such a sweet little face, do you? I recall when I walked out of a pet store some little time ago with a bag of bird toys, the cashier asked me, “Is all this for a new bird or a very spoiled bird?” Well, two spoiled birds, actually, and it’s so darned much fun.

So far, Max has little use for the new pup, but the put is quite interested in Max. I think they’ll come to an accommodation.

On the way home from work I had to stop to pick up some things for the puppy, not groceries for us, but some things for the puppy!

Sounds as if things are progressing normally, then. smile I’ll bet you didn’t really mind, either.

Max will come around. When he discovers that the little puppy is a source of much heat and fluffiness, he’ll wonder why you didn’t get him a puppy sooner.
