Cider Press Hill

Another change of plans

Wednesday, 6:02 pm

I received a frantic phone call from my Thanksgiving Dinner hostess. Could I please come over and help do the umpty-bazillion prep details with her? Pleeeeease? She said she’d make sure my wine glass was full at all times if I did. Well hey. That’s an offer that’s hard to refuse. I’ll take off in a few minutes.

Shortly after that conversation, the lad called to say he was at his Dad’s house and will be arriving on my doorstep on Saturday morning. Very early on Saturday morning. And he will leave here sometime Sunday morning. The Dad is feeling rather relaxed or something. I tend to think there is a Christmas string attached to this generous offer that I haven’t heard about yet, but whatever. There’s plenty of Christmas break so I just don’t care one way or the other as long as the lad is here for half of it. I can’t wait to grab that kid and hug him half to death.

Anyway. That means I’ll be tearing around here cleaning and washing sheets on Friday and I now think the applesauce canning project may have to wait until Monday morning. Oh, and the laptop is due to arrive on Friday afternoon, too. I dunno...maybe it should wait until Monday now. Things are going to be hopping around here for the next couple of days. What fun!

LOL, well I bet you two had fun! Should I call dibs on you for next year now?
You are probably right about the strings attached but, hey you get to see him this weekend!
This working full time thing is beginning to suck lol. I didn’t get home until 6:30 last night. And then I had to drive GC2’s boyfriend and friend home, then cook dinner. We ate at about 8pm. I have done not one thing for prep for tomorrow. I haven’t even had a chance to iron the table linens! Which is why my mind is going a mile a minute at 2:30 AM and I can’t sleep LOL.
We are not eating until late in the day (GC1 has to work until 4) so I do have all day. Now if my brain would just settle so I could back to sleep I might even be awake to eat dinner! Hope you have a great day, and tell J I send Happy Thanksgiving wishes.

Yes, we did have fun. And yes you may call dibs. My goodness we managed to accomplish a lot last night. Potatoes are peeled and cut up and covered with water, desserts made, casseroles prepared, the bird thawed, and a string of kids stood around sniffing the air, chattering with us. They were wandering in and out all evening. I enjoy young people so much.

My apple pies are now in the midst of construction, the carrots are peeled and soaking in water. My hot water runneth over. Everything seems to be on schedule.

So, did you ever get back to sleep? You’re going to be face down in the mashed potatoes if you didn’t. ;) I hope you guys have a wonderful day. Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!!  A year ago I was sitting outside -at a restaurant called...what else, Margaritaville--eating nachos and drinking Margaritas (plural--very, very plural) and I can say it was the BEST Thanksgiving dinner I ever had!!

This year was supposed to have been in Key West, but we are going to be in Charlotte, NC next weekend so I had to push Key West aside.  Next year though, that is where I shall be!!  Enough of gloomy New England!!

The only good part about this year is I am not cooking!!  Just had to make desserts (which I enjoy making) and a vegetable to take to someone else’s home! YAY.

Happy Happy Day and enjoy your brief visit with your son on Saturday!

Thanks, Cyn. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. It may not be Key West, but at least you still don’t have to cook much and destroy your kitchen in the process! That’s a great Thanksgiving in my book! smile

I’m so looking forward to seeing the lad. I swear it really is like having an early Christmas. All these good things all piling up at once. It’s just lovely!

Yes I did go back at about 4 and got a couple more hours before I had to get up and make breakfast lol. I started cooking at 9-10 AM for dinner tonight.
