"Hey Mom, I’m leavin,” he yelled up the stairs.
“What are you doing, again?”
“Going food shopping,” he yelled. That’s right, he and his prom date are going out to buy food for the after prom party that she’s hosting tomorrow night.
“How domestic,” I replied from the top of the stairs.
I noticed a pink tinge wash over the lad’s face and I thought, “Oh crap, she’s downstairs.”
And then I heard the most delightful peal of laughter.
So I finally had the opportunity to meet Becky. She has the most intense head of red hair I think I’ve ever seen. With lots of freckles to go along with it. Pretty girl with a real sense of humor. She thought my remark was hilarious. The lad, on the other hand, wanted the earth to open up and swallow me. Well, I like this Becky. She and the lad have been friends for long time. She finally decided it was time to take it up a notch. He doesn’t seem to mind at all.
So, I asked him...what about the one from the cruise? What about her?
He’s not sure, really. She’s nice and beautiful and they have a great time swapping instant messages. But, he says, he thinks he was attracted to her for her looks first and it hasn’t been as easy to get to know her. She’s not a talker.
Becky, on the other hand, is a really good friend and he’s also interested in taking it to a different level. He likes her. They share lots of interests and can talk a blue streak. She’s outgoing and fun to be with. That’s the winning combination.
Don’t think I’ll see much of him this weekend. Prom party preparations and then the prom itself. Those attending the after prom party are invited (required) to remain at the house for a sleep over, with a huge brunch the next morning. I thought that was interesting. Her parents would prefer to keep them all under one roof for the night rather than let them out loose on the world. Safer for everyone and less temptation to get into mischief. I concur, although it is kind of a novel idea for boys and girls to have a sleep over together. But Becky’s parents assure me that they have it all planned out and the place will be more secure than Fort Knox. Considering that it’s their daughter hosting the party, I think I’ll place my trust in their capable hands. I still think it’s a novel idea, though.
