"Winter Storm Watch remains in effect from late Wednesday night to Thursday evening for southeastern New England…
A major winter storm will bring periods of heavy snow and strong winds to much of southeast New England late Wednesday night into Thursday evening.”
I guess that stupid groundhog was right.
This Winter Storm Watch includes northeast Connecticut… all of Rhode Island… central and eastern Massachusetts.
There is the potential for at least a foot of snow in parts of this watch area… especially from northern Rhode Island to the Boston area northwestward to Worcester and the Merrimack valley.
The cape and parts of the South Coast will probably see a mix of rain and sleet for a part of the storm… as well as temperatures just above freezing… tempering the potential for large amounts. However there… the snow may accumulate on trees and wires with gusty north winds Thursday afternoon and evening causing scattered power outages from Providence and westerly to New Bedford the cape and islands.
Snow is expected to begin late Wednesday night… and may start as rain from the Interstate 95 corridor to Cape Cod and the islands.
By daybreak Thursday… it should be snowing everywhere except possibly the South Coast… where a change to snow should take place sometime Thursday afternoon.
Three to 6 inches of new snow may already be on the ground by daybreak Thursday from Worcester to Killingly Connecticut and the northwest tip of Rhode Island.
The blowing and drifting snow will contribute to the poor visibility… especially near the coast.
There is very little chance that this storm will miss the region. With that in mind… all who have Commerce or personal endeavors to accomplish Thursday… should prepare for major delays and or make plans to accomplish those goals on another day.
