Last night I thought it would be nice to open a bottle of wine and sip along while listening to some pretty music. I got out a bottle and my two pronged device for extracting the cork. I tried several times to get the prongs down between the sides of the bottle and the cork. No go. I couldn’t get the prongs in very far and the more pressure I applied, the more the cork showed signs of wanting to slip into the bottle. Not good.

So I got out the cork screw and screwed it into the cork. I pulled and pulled and pulled. No go. The cork wasn’t going to come out and all I managed to do was break off a few pieces of the cork.

So...I went in search of the super deluxe Vigneto wine opener that someone gave me a couple of years ago. I’d never used it, but this seemed like a job for the Vigneto. I opened the box and struggled to get the opener out of its case. Didn’t want to come out. And, in the process of struggling with it, I ripped a fingernail off. Right down below the quick. I want to tell you, that hurt.

At that point I thought, you know, I didn’t want a glass of wine that bad. Really.

The Vigneto wine opener is still in its case and the cork is still in the bottle.
