Terry and I were staring at each other through the screen door (she was being stubborn) when a darting flying thing caught the corner of my eye. At first I thought it was a big bug, but nooo...the first hummingbird of the season showed up to have a snack at my hummingbird feeder. Terry wasn’t standing more than two feet from the feeder, wagging her tail, but the hummingbird wasn’t concerned.

And, after sampling each of the nectar stations, it came over to the screen door and hovered there checking me out. I was just so speechless with amazement I couldn’t have said “Wow!” if I’d tried. I hardly dared breathe, as it was. After the little bird paid its respects it went back for another drink and then darted off to some neighboring pine trees. Maybe its nest is over there. I hope so because that means it’ll come back often.

I was beginning to give up on the feeder. It’s been so lonesome for the past two weeks. I’ve been filling it and emptying it and filling it again, just hoping. I’m so excited I can hardly see straight.

Hummingbirds are SO cute and SO tiny and SO energetic and...well...they’re pretty curious, too. Maybe it’ll stay still long enough for me to get a picture of it before the end of the season.
