What I don’t understand is how rain can fall sideways. At some point along the way the rain is coming down—vertically. But right here, it is whizzing past the house horizontally. I can literally watch it swooshing up the street in sheets. And it’s cold out. And very, very windy.
Terry is going to burst her bladder any time now. I opened the door a couple of times and as soon as the wind and the rain hit her in the face, she turned around and trotted right back to her bed. Nothing is important enough to make her want to go outside. We’ll see how that plays out. At some point it’s going to become a critical issue for her. The rain and wind are supposed to last through tomorrow. I don’t think she can hold it that long.
My favorite bookstore called to let me know my special order book didn’t come in again this morning. He thought I might like to know in case I was tempted to brave the elements in hopes of it being there. No, I told him, nothing would make me go out there today. But I appreciated the call. I love small independent booksellers. My new book should arrive on Monday. We hope. It has now missed two shipment dates. But we’re hopeful for Monday. That’s kind of disappointing, really. I had anticipated burrowing in for a long read this weekend—Shadia Drury’s book, Leo Strauss and the American Right, as recommended and reviewed by Billmon.
Now I find that I’ve run out of coffee. I had just enough for one small pot. That’s an emergency. I have to go out in this awful weather now.
