Just looked at my new phone bill online. I believe I mentioned the lad calling his girlfriend in Scotland last month and how I barked at him to cut it short. Turns out it was a good thing I happened by when I did to minimize the damages. His 8 minutes came out to $17.27. That’s a pretty hefty per minute charge. I am ever so happy that they finally decided that Instant Messaging worked well for them. He called one more time for 3 minutes and she called once. But that’s been it. She will be home on Tuesday. They’ll be back to cell phone gabbing twenty times a day.

All things considered, though, my phone bill (which also includes DirecTV and DSL) was a pleasant surprise. Owing to a bit of a mix-up in getting the paper bill switched over to on-line bill and the system catching up with things, I somehow managed to pay a month ahead. So, the long distance charge to the UK is all I owe this month. Heh. That’s a little extra in my pocket I wasn’t expecting. Guess it won’t stay there long, though. The coffee maker shorted out this afternoon.

Update: Now urgently soliciting opinions on coffeemakers.....
