Liberal is a nice word

A while ago, while consulting with my thesaurus, I noticed that one of the synonyms for gracious was liberal. Hm. So I looked up the word liberal and these were the synonyms: Progressive, leftist, tolerant, gracious, permissive, bountiful, generous. These equivalencies strike me as positive, admirable traits.

And then I looked up the word conservative, which said: Unprogressive, moderate, protective, unchanging, stable, reactionary, mossback [old geezer], diehard, Tory.

Well, those are qualities and traits that have their place, too. Although reactionary isn’t a word I’d want attached to me. Different strokes and all. I’ll happily embrace the word liberal. It’s a nice word.
