Is it better yet?

For the past couple of days I’ve been attempting to streamline this site and force the pages to load faster. Over time I’ve added a number of little bells and whistles that I think add value, but they tend to slow things down. I’ve cut a little bit here and a little bit there, tinkered with the engine in the back room, and rearranged some coding. It’s still not as quick as I’d like, but on my browsers, at least, the load times are better and there isn’t quite as much black screen flash at the beginning of the main page load. Does anyone else see a difference?
The one item that would make an even larger difference would be axing the StatCounter coding. And forget about Site Meter. I decided to try that out again a week or so ago and it still slows things down to a crawl. StatCounter is better, but if I could live without my stats, it would be the first thing to go. I’m trying to convince myself that I don’t need StatCounter, but it’s not working yet.
