Totally unrelated: Some time ago I wrote about Terry [the greyhound] tearing her umpteenth bed up into a bazillion pieces. My vow then was to not buy another bed and let her sleep on old utility blankets. Blankets are easy to wash, hard to rip up. And that is exactly what I’ve done.
Unfortunately, Terry takes her creature comforts very seriously and she has been pretty sad about her lack of quality sleeping accommodations. This evening I couldn’t stand it any longer.
K-Mart was advertising a sale on twin bed comforters so I went over to take a look. They were inexpensive and I found a light khaki color that was suitably neutral. They weren’t terribly thick, but folded over a couple of times would offer a really thick cushion. So I bought one and brought it home.
You would think it was the most exciting day in Terry’s life. As soon as I walked in the door with it, she was on alert. She senses things. Her mama brought something wonderful home especially for her. She KNEW it. She was so happy. So giddy. As soon as I’d folded the comforter in quarters and placed it on top of her other blankets, she dived in and rolled around with glee. Happy eyes. Happy dog. So much more than I’ve seen in a while. Principles be darned, I guess. I won’t short change her again. Man is she a happy dog tonight.
