This morning I stopped by the bank and each teller window had a small fishbowl with a Siamese Fighting Fish in it. With the bank’s air conditioning set to arctic, I’m not sure how long they’ll last, but they were a fun slice of life to see in an unexpected place. Got me to thinking.
I haven’t had fish in a while. My 30 gallon aquarium is gone and probably thriving in someone else’s home now. I don’t want to do fish in a big way again. At least not for a while. But I like having fish.
One of my fonder memories as a child was visiting my mother’s best friend who kept a small fish bowl on her kitchen table. It was there for years and years. The bowl was choked with living greens and, in amongst them, untold numbers of guppies lived and multiplied. With enough greens, a small fishbowl can achieve equilibrium so that filters and aeration aren’t needed. I was always fascinated by the small fish bowl and have wanted to try it myself. Sooo…
Meet my new fancy guppies. The female is pregnant (when aren’t they?!), so we should have the swish-swish of new little fins in the next week or two. The male has been pestering the living daylights out of the female already, but she’s not having any part of that. They’re fun to watch.
And here’s their close-up shot.
