Incidentally...I learned that our White House has now imposed a dress code for tourists (as well as visitors and employees). CBS has a little blurb about it along with a short embedded video report. It’s quite interesting. If you plan to visit Washington, DC and take in a White House tour at some point during the day, you will no longer be allowed admittance if you are wearing jeans, tee shirts, shorts, mini-skirts, tank tops, flip flops, or sneakers. Sneakers, for crying out loud. That would, of course, include running shoes or trainers...whatever you call them. What person in his/her right mind is going to be hoofing it around Washington, DC in anything other than sneakers/running shoes/trainers that won’t leave your feet destroyed by the end of the day?! Having ‘done’ Washington DC over a 3 day period several years ago, I can speak from experience that walking is the way most tourists get around. I would not have survived without running shoes. As I recall, I wore a pink oxford blouse (tucked in), khaki walking shorts and running shoes and looked quite presentable. This is a really dumb idea.
