On Thursday afternoon, the lad left for his Dad’s house and on Friday they both flew to Grandma’s house in Ohio for the long weekend. I expect to see him back on Monday night, barring complications from the ice storm that’s sweeping into the area from the plains states. Yesterday we were told to expect severe icing...today, not so much.
Part of me digs having the house to myself, but today it began to sink in that his winter vacation is nearly over. The remainder of the week will be devoted to getting him ready to go back to school on Saturday or Sunday. I’m not sure which day, yet. It might be better to take him back on Saturday so that he has a day to settle in before classes begin on Monday. I’m not exactly looking forward to him leaving, but I know he’s ready and, this time, I don’t anticipate more than a sharp stab of sadness when I leave him and drive off into, hopefully, the northeast.
It’s hard to believe that a month has passed so quickly. It flew and I’ve surely enjoyed it. I know he has, too. He’s vocalized that several times, which does a Mom’s heart good. But the New Year won’t really be off to a solid start for either of us until we’re back to our normal daily routines. I’m looking forward to it and not looking forward to it all at the same time.
