Do Not Call

The number of unsolicited calls cascading into this house reached a high point today. As of this hour, my phone has recorded 11 calls from a series of 800 and 888 numbers plus calls from Always Travel, Manhattan Club, WYOMING, MASSACHUSETTS, and MONTANA. All unsolicited calls and almost all coming from automatic dialers.

This represents a sudden increase in calls, so I have to assume that at least one of the vendors from whom I purchased Christmas gifts has graciously sold my number.

A few moments ago I FINALLY registered with the National Do Not Call Registry. In 31 days my phone should be mine again and my answering machine will stop recording dial tones (or obnoxious sales pitches that begin with, “I’ll get right to the point...").
