"One entire political party has lost its mind, and well may succeed for having done so. A congressional candidate in Alabama is running commercials equating progressive taxation with slavery and the Holocaust. A candidate for the Senate in Nevada seems to deny any role for a central government short of raising an army, and perhaps not even that, since she seems to suggest that, if the election doesn’t go her way, her several followers may go to guns in response. The members of that party in the national legislature have utterly abandoned their duties to the public good for unalloyed obstructionism. On Wednesday, the Senate again failed to pass an extension of unemployment benefits for the first time since the 1950’s, and this in a time of 9.5-percent unemployment. The government is unwilling to bring the criminals of the previous administration to justice, and seemingly unable to bring the corporate criminals of the previous decade to justice, either. Some 20,000 barrels of oil are spilling daily into the Gulf of Mexico, where now huge columns of smoke are beginning to rise from the surface of the sea. And maybe it is time to read Revelations with a fresh eye, after all, except for the fact that the horsemen are not unleashed upon us. I know the pendulum swings from one side to the other in a somewhat cyclical fashion, but this time it seems to be taking longer and it’s more extreme. And I’m not sure it’s going to right itself any time soon. What kind of people will we be by the time it does?
I read a piece by Glenn Greenwald a couple of days ago...about how President Obama and Co have decided it’s perfectly okay to assassinate American citizens who might be suspected of having ties with terrorist groups. The particular loon they’re gunning for was born and raised in Florida, but has been pretty mouthy about providing moral and vocal support to those who don’t like us for various reasons. If being mouthy and inciteful is a crime, then why haven’t Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh been brought to heel? Ohhh....only Muslim mouthiness isn’t tolerated.
Our President & Co support the assassination of American citizens? Really??!! Execution without due process?? Our Constitutional Scholar President? I’m so done with the lot of them. That was the last straw. The very last foul stinking straw.
Fortunately the fringe generally doesn’t make it to the center. The pendulum keeps swinging. Patience, steadfastness and hold on tight. 
Kate, I am not too far behind you in my thinking. My husband cautions as does Walter Jeffries, patience, steadfastness and hold on, but I have never been known for my patience, so I do not know.......
He lists all the good things that have been done and reminds me of what this poor man (Obama) has had to go through for each and every victory he has won. No other president has had to go through as many hoops nor faced as much nastiness (that I can remember), so I guess while there are things that make us see red, we need to try and weigh the good against the bad...........
I wish I could see something positive in the near future, but I don’t. And, ordinarily, I’m not a pessimist. But I am now in the “don’t like him, but would vote for him as opposed to something worse” camp as regards Obama. I’m increasingly of the opinion that he has a bit of a neo-con thing going on. I wondered about that when I learned a couple of years ago that he was from the University of Chicago. Something in the water there....
What say we start an “invade Iran on what date” pool? I feel bad things in these bones.
