I’m not anticipating too much trouble from this storm, but I could always be surprised. My neighbor, I noticed, has stacked sandbags two deep around the bulkhead door to her basement. The people on the hill behind us haven’t resolved the drainage situation yet. Another couple of inches of mud in her basement and she’d be liable to shoot someone. (She’s having the bulkhead raised a foot sometime this month.)
I am a little wary of Ike. Keeping a close watch. If he made it up this far, he’d probably be at least a category 1 hurricane. Having gone through that with Hurricane Bob in 1991, I realllllllly don’t want to do that again. I’d only lived here for a couple months before Hurricane Bob blew through. Followed a month later by the Halloween Nor’easter which was, actually, an unnamed hurricane that lasted 3 freakin’ long days. At which point I whined, “I wanna go back home!” No wonder New Englanders are thought to be a hardy lot.
Some winters we get tropical type storms every weekend, but they’re called nor’easters and nobody gives us too much sympathy. It wears thin very quickly. About three hours into the second one and we’re SO READY for spring!
Well we know the flashing around my chimney needs to be fixed. And um, the sand bags that I found under the back deck? They have me a little worried! I know our basement gets water, a given when a house is over 100 years old lol. But um I have know idea where to place them. There are not enough to go around the house so it must leak more in certain place. Guess we shall find out! And um, I am scared. There I said it. All these windows for the lightning to be seen through and the thunder to rattle. Maybe someone would like to come over for coffee today? Though it is 10:00 and its really not as bad as I thought it would be. Hey ya, we are more inland than you so maybe you should come over! It will be less here! (this is me trying to talk her into it, shhhh, she knows how scared I am of NE storms) Well, I will be here. Call me if you like when you are up and about.
Well, here, anyway, it did nothing all day until about 5PM and then as they say, the rains came......and came and are still coming at 10PM. Hard rain, coming so fast and hard my gutters cannot handle it so it sounds worse than it is outside. House is mega-humid, disgusting and can’t open too many windows unless we want to be doing the backstroke inside.
Could be worse though and apparently tomorrow is to be nice.....GO PATS!! ;)
Kate, check your email, sent you a couple pictures to make your night....if they come through.
Heh. Cyn, that’s what I call a hard-core football fan. Storm, pfui!
I so dislike the weather people. Had me all on nerves end with the lightening and thunder crap. Not. One. Sound. Lots of rain, my weeds will be in full bloom this week, yay!
Call me when you get up. Sorry about that. My phone gives very little warning before it crashes! Last I herd was, “We should do something this week............. LOL
Well, the storms are over - for today anyway--the sun is trying to come out and last I heard Manchester, NH was sliding down toward Massachusetts as they are flooded out and had over 7” of rain!!
That’s right, Linkmeister, storms become irrelevant during football season. LOL But am glad they are not going to have to play in driving rain and steady winds. I guess supposed to be around 80 by kick off. ;)
The sunshine is out here today, too. Quite lovely, in fact, with very low humidity! YAY!
That was an odd storm. The rain fell straight down almost the entire time. Lots and lots and lots and lots of rain. We’ve now had our September and October allotment of rain all in the space of about 8 hours. But where was the wind?
It didn’t start here until 2:00 AM and lasted until about 5:00. Then it was like someone flicked a switch and it was all over.
We had a very exciting night. Abbie heard the wind. And a couple of small branches smacked the side of the house. Abbie fell apart and hid under my bed caterwauling for three straight hours. I’m lucky to be able to string words together today. I’m so tired. Abbie is fine now and, of course, is napping.
When I went out the front door this morning, the snow shovel (I used it to clear up wood debris in the driveway after the wood delivery) was laying on the floor right smack in front of the door. I thought that was an ominous sign. Mother Nature was having her bit of fun with me. Never too early to remind me of the blizzards she’s going to conjure up this winter.
Cyn, I never noticed before today that Tom Brady has an adorable dimple in the middle of his chin. I don’t even like football. What have you done to me?!
Oh my god, don’t let mehave any influence on you Kate--it will be all downhill for you if I do!! HA
That said, though,,,,,,,ahhhh yes, just call me Mrs. Robinson, that ‘boy’ is some serious eye candy...speaking of eye candy (we were, weren’t we?) did you ever catch that hokey show on CBS last year called Moonlight (it has been cancelled). The actor on that definitely earned me the name Mrs. Robinson, he was even cuter than Brady and I believe had a never ending dimple in his chin. LOL
Cyn what happened to Tom today, I missed it!!! please tell me he won’t be out all season.
Breaking news via email from WBZ about 2 minutes ago, is reporting he has a torn ACL and could well be out for the season. I cannot believe it. Less than 15 minutes into the game. Everyone there was stunned, you could see the shock on everyone’s face.
I am no expert but I truly think it was just one of those freak accidents, it was not a dirty hit or anything else. Just S*** happens as we all know. Hopefully he will have a quick recovery cause his backup is definitely not ready for prime time...;(
Oh man. I was afraid things were bad after seeing Belichick’s post-game interview. He looked positively shell-shocked. Must have already known it was bad. What a shame.
I used to follow football pretty religiously. Way back, when I lived in Rochester, my workmates and I would regularly hike off to Buffalo to watch the Bills. Super special occasions when the Bills played the Jets. Those were the Namath years, not that I’m dating myself or anything. I just lost interest over the years. This was the first football game I’ve intentionally watched in A Long Time.
You liked Moonlight, too? Pure eye candy. I was very disappointed to learn it was cancelled. If I like it, it’s the kiss of death. Also happened to The Journeyman and New Amsterdam.
J—wanna go on Tuesday morning? Can’t do anything tomorrow. Getting the gutters cleaned. Pffft.
Well the rain did not find its way into my house as far as I know, but it sure did find its way into my car. You see, we had the driveway resurfaced or whatever it is they do to driveways on Friday so had to park the cars out on the street until today. Got into my car late yesterday and ended up doing the backstroke in the front street.
Could not believe it, there was a puddle two inches deep on the driver side, less deep on the other side but definitely wet. Spent all day today driving around with the top down and parking in the sun trying to dry it out. Crazy! And I have no idea how or where it came in. It’s a first for me! And it is still wet!
I am so glad you liked Moonlight too, makes me feel much better! ;)
um its 11: 30 already are you up? LOL if you need to call me call me cell ok. I really hate comcast!!!
J, you *really* are not the poster child for Comcast love. Let’s hope it’s not catchin’ because, for once, I’ve been happy with Comcast. Having said that, however, now something will probably happen. I think you should demand nothing less than 3 months of free service. More if you can get it!
Gutter cleaning was postponed until today. I wouldn’t have believed the crud in them if I hadn’t been standing there watching. Gross. Guess we’re good for another year. We’ll try for tomorrow. At least the weather will be better. Actually it’ll be freezing, but better than this mega-humidity and the T-storms you love so much.
Dear Santa, please bring me water wings for Christmas cause it is pouring down buckets here today and my car still had puddles inside from Saturday night...Oh my.....and I am at work and nothing I can do about it. Backstroke, side stroke, dead man’s float, I will be doing them all if this keeps up. LOL
You probably oughta ask Santa to bring you a shiny new snow shovel.
Where did that storm come from, anyway? Thunder, lightning, torrential rains....the works. Must have been ushering in a cold front. I had to go put my fuzzy socks on!
I hope your car dries out soon. Mildew in the car is not a good thing. Maybe run the AC to help suck out the moisture?
I could try the AC and see if it works, or I could wait until Thursday when the temps here are supposed to be starting out around 36. Awful!!
I don’t know where that storm came from, but it sure came in a rush. One minute it was getting dark and the next it was torrential with the thunder, lightening and all the rest. Cold now!!
HA, my word is river.......yup there is one, in my car.
Oh boy, now everyone is up in arms because Obama said you can put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig.......of course, the cry is unfair, foul, sexist. However, I read somewhere that McCain used the identical expression in referring to one of Hilary’s healthcare proposals and I do not recall any particular umbrage on the part of all these same screaming yahoo’s.. Do you? I wish I had more money to send to Obama’s campaign. I am so mad at this point I could spit. I want to get IN HER FACE and say, sweetie, if you can’t take the heat in the kitchen, then get your moose hunting, smary face, shrill voiced butt out of the kitchen.......... whew, I feel so much better now.......
My word is catnip, I think I could use it or something about now.
Having a manufactured tantrum over a non-issue does make it possible for them to avoid talking about anything substantive. My goodness, it’s not as if banks are failing or investment houses are going bankrupt or Fannie and Freddie have been nationalized so that we can pay the humongous tab. Because, of course, that would mean talking about Dubya’s failed policies of the past eight years which McCain supported 90% of the time. Hitched his little star to Dubya’s wagon early on and well...how that did that work out for ya, Sen McCain?
And why are they all worked up about a pig wearing lipstick when whatsername calls herself a pitbull with lipstick? They aren’t so up on their animal nomenclature, are they? Or...is she a nasty fish? It’s so hard to keep up.
PS...are you as freezing as I am? It’s almost time to pull out the long underwear if this keeps up. Sheesh. My teeth are chattering.

Oh I hope it doesn’t get otoo bad! It looks like IKE might be worse, would he be heading your way too? It seems like it might be a bad year for hurricanes…
