I’m sure the media service providers are busy dreaming up new ways to get more out of us. I expect tiers of metered use to be next. The bottom line is never fat enough.
Aloha!! ;) I am going to tackle this one soon after we get back too. Ours is a mishmash but am paying an ourtrageous amount JUST for my Comcast Cable (have DirecTV and Verizon for phone--a bundling project that went awry a few years ago). But our entire neighborhood has been wired (last fall) for FIOS, not hooked up or wasn’t when we left a couple weeks ago, so will see what the status of that is. I would assume once the connection is made I will have a little more bargaining power with Comcast. Although, I suspect I will go withthe Fios, I am hoping they are offering some good deals for a year or so, and then the whole process begins anew. Maybe the good old days really were?? LOL
i just hate dealing with these goons. it took me almost 6 months to cancel my cable tv when i moved. i called and cancelled and they kept billing me even though i did not live there! it took about a year to do the same with earthlink internet service. what a nightmare! i spent hours and hours on the phone dealing with the lot!
I had similar problems with Comcast the first time around, just after I dumped them and went over to Verizon. I don’t even remember now what they did exactly, but I do remember losing my temper right there in their office while trying to settle the final bill and getting gouged. I was pretty sure I’d burned all my Comcast bridges behind me after that episode. Funny thing is, Comcast still never cancelled my email account. When I left Verizon and went back to Comcast, I still had my old email account and a mailbox full of spam. Whoohoo! ;)
Verizon was the worst, though. When I left to go back to Comcast, they doubled up my last bill and said I had to pay it because they couldn’t adjust the bill on their computer system. We went around and around for a couple of months before I finally caved in and paid it. It took them another four months to refund the overpayment which wasn’t exactly an insignificant amount. They were long on excuses and really short on action. Guess no bridges were burned there, either. They keep begging me to come back.
Thanks for the suggestion

We’ve experienced about the same sort of thing here from the cable provider. Internet, phone, and TV. We dumped the TV after the first summer since we wasted too much time watching stupid shows. I’m tempted to ditch the phone line too since we have cell phones, but we’ve been know by that house number for nearly 30 years, and a lot of family still use it (along with a lot of solicitors). If I did anything, I might upgrade my internet connection to a faster speed, but even that I don’t need. Still, I’m sure the price will march up.
