Cider Press Hill

Perfect day, timid kitty, and etc

Remember when I planted 72 little peat pots full of vegetable seeds last week? All of the seeds have sprouted. Every last one of them. I am astonished. A few of the seedlings have begun reaching for the sky while others still hover close to the soil. But, they are all up and they look healthy. I placed them outside this afternoon, in the shade, to get a little extra light and warmth. They’re too fragile yet for full sunlight. They’re not accustomed to it and it would be tragic if I gave them a fatal sunburn. When they get some size on them, I’ll gradually introduce them to full sunshine.

Do these legislators really think this is going to end well? People in Florida can now take their guns to work. They must keep them securely locked in their cars while at work, but at least they’ve made it a whole lot easier for the guy who’s planning to go postal. I wonder where people store their common sense. Maybe they do have some, but I suspect much of it is overruled by special interest groups. Nothing new there.

The thing that suggests that there was more than a little pandering to special interests was the exclusion clause of the new law: No one working at nuclear power plants, prisons, schools or companies whose business involves homeland security can bring their guns to work.

The rest of the employed? Eh. What is homeland security if not to give disgruntled employees extra opportunity to mow their coworkers down while preserving an extra layer of security for the important people who do the important work of keeping citizens safe from people who want to mow them down?

Today has been a windy day. While out and about running some errands this afternoon, I saw plastic grocery bags fluttering up in the tree branches along the main drag. That doesn’t improve the landscape one little bit. It’s ugly. But, perhaps, other people looking at the same bags flapping in the wind might take a moment to reflect on simple ways to eliminate/reduce that blight on the landscape.

You know....Reusable shopping bags.

Can’t say enough good things about them. Many grocery stores now offer them at very low prices. Grab a couple and give them a whirl. Who wants to look at plastic bags flapping in the tree branches?

I would be remiss if I didn’t rave about the perfect weather today. Bright and sunny and a beautiful 71°. Absolute perfection in every way. I’ve opened the doors and windows and gone out to fiddle around in the yard. I’ve filled the birdbath and watched the robins and a cardinal splash around in it. They were so happy.

Abbie, my timid little kitty, has been hiding under the lad’s bed all day. She is not fond of open windows on a windy day. The wind makes the curtains move. It makes the blinds rattle. It even ruffled her fur once. That’s a horrible state of affairs for a timid kitty. Scary bad.

I finally closed the window in the lad’s room so that she could have peace. It’s not enough, though. She can hear the wind doing evil things in the rest of the house. She’s still under the bed. My poor timid kitty.

Nevertheless, concern for Abbie’s mental state aside, this is a red letter spring day! More like this, please. Days like today make people smile a lot.
