Well, you’ve pulled all that off with aplomb. Good for you! The bottle of Pinot Noir would be my idea of perfection. My favorite!
Do turkeys only rest in New England or is that term widespread? ‘Cuz that’s the first time I have ever heard it. Made me smile.
I’ve just now pulled the banana bread out of the oven. The apple pies are done, the carrots are about to go on the stove. I think we’re eating around 4:00.
Meanwhile the laundry is washing and I’ve washed dishes and the water tank just finished heating for the second time today.
Dunno about anyone else, but I’m thankful for hot water.
Weeell, reality check.
My washing machine sprung a huge leak. One of the water hoses attached to the back cracked wide open and gushed like a geyser. It had been going on for a while, when it dawned on me that the washer had been filling up for a rather long time. The water heater is now heating for the third time.
And...there’s a flood in my basement. I can’t get the danged top off the floor drain and I cut my thumb with a pair of rusty pliers. So, there’s a tetanus shot in my very near future.
I am going to pretend that my basement is not flooded. For a few hours, anyway. Nothing much is going to change. It will definitely still be here when I get home this evening.
Maybe I’ll run away.
Ay-yi-yi! Why do these things happen on weekends or holidays?
I don’t know. Maybe that’s the only time the little hobgoblins get to play unattended.
One of the good lads across the street had a HUGE wrench and got the cover off the drain. Standing water is now gone. I’ll have fans going down there for some time to come, I think. This was certainly the catalyst for cleaning my basement thoroughly.
It’s a darned good thing that tomorrow is trash day. There is a lot of soggy stuff being dragged to the curb this evening. What lousy timing. Ugh.
Oh Kate, that just really sucks
Well, at least dinner wasn’t at your house and you could walk away from it for a bit! Those hobgoblins seem to be making the rounds in these parts lately.
Last weekend we had flat tires to deal with, the weekend before it was the furnace. I am hoping that those hobgoblins stay north this weekend
Yes, I’m really thrilled about it. Those hobgoblins have had enough fun for one holiday. They can go back to sleep now.
The dehumidifier and fans are hugely helping. Things really dried out a lot over night. I think I’ve beat the mildew this time. And the trash guys hauled a good portion of my basement away this morning.
And at least I got one large load of laundry done before the washer sprung a leak. I wish I’d washed the sheets first now. Oh well.
you know, so many people have always said, if you are going on vacation, turn the water off so that very thing does not happen. Have I ever? NO. Should I? Yes--especially since two of our friends have had significant damage to their homes because of that--so I guess if there is a bright side, it is that you were not away, cause apparently it can (and does) happen even if you are NOT washing clothes…
Here’s a bright note that should make you smile. I’ll try to write the fast version...on our way home T’giving night, stopped at our best friends to say hello to everyone. OUr godchild was there with her 3 kids, youngest is 4 and really doesn’t know me. Had seen a picture of me a few days before and asked who I was. My godchild said, you know her, that’s my godmother. Her 4 year old said, YOU HAVE A FAIRY GODMOTHER?? Tina said I sure do. SO, that night this gorgeous little girl with huge blue eys (image of her mom at the same age) looked up and me and said, are you really, really my mommy’s fairy godmother. I said, I sure am. SHe goes, WOW!!!!!!! ANyway, over the next hour she stuck to me like glue and we were having a grand old time. At one point she said, what’s your real name and so i told her, then said, but you can call me whatever you want. She thought for about a half second and said, Samantha--I’m going to call you Samantha, Samantha, MY fairy godmother. I loved it and needless to say, she is at the top of my list of special people! ;)
My mother always told me to turn the water to the washer off after using it. She always did, though I don’t know if that was experience speaking or if that’s what she was told she should do. She was nearly religious about it. It’s too bad that didn’t rub off on me. I’ve learned my lesson.
Cyn, what a perfect story! It must feel wonderful to be someone’s fairy godmother! Especially a beautiful little girl who really, really believes. Samantha is a very good name for a fairy godmother. Congratulations! I Just Love It!

Happy Thanks Giving! Turkey is in the oven. All my sides (except mashed potatoes) are done and waiting for the turkey to come out so I can cook them while the turkey rests! Going to go take a shower, get dressed, pick up GC1 and start those potatoes! hopefully we will be sitting down at the table by 6pm. Oh and the kids ironed all the linens for me. WOO HOO. Once everyone is served, I am cracking my bottle of Pinot Noir and not stopping until it’s all gone!
LOL, my word is hades.
