Planning wickedness

I have been invited to Thanksgiving dinner at a friend’s house. And I have been instructed to bring an apple pie, homemade banana bread, and a large bowl of steamed carrots. The carrots were kind of an afterthought, but I asked if I could make anything else besides the pie and the bread. My stove will be relatively unused compared to hers, so an extra burner or two might be useful to her. “Carrots,” she said. The kids like them and she hates fussing with them. So carrots it is. I make good dilled carrots.

Well naturally, you just know that my mind immediately went to the gas meter and I shuddered to think what all that baking will do to it. And then I got to thinking...as long as I have to get apples for the pie, I might as well get the rest of the apples I need for making and canning applesauce. I am finally being forced to go to the apple orchard. Apple pie on Thursday morning and applesauce on Friday. Whoo, think of the gas I’ll use for that, too!

And then I decided...I’m calling a moratorium for week #26 of the 90 Percent Project. There is no sense in torturing myself over it. My numbers will already be bad, so what the heck. That’s pure wickedness, but I am sort of curious what the results will be if I live without counting watts and therms. Is it too ingrained now or can I throw caution to the wind and let ‘er rip? I don’t know. I have to admit that the idea of unlimited hot water kind of excites me...and stabs my conscience unmercifully. I guess we’ll see.
