Cider Press Hill

Game 4

You could say that people are a little excited around these parts this weekend. Will the Sox clinch it tonight or....?

I have to confess that I caved in last weekend. On Monday I called Comcast and requested that they turn on my basic cable under the terms we agreed to before I had it disconnected, just in case I’d ever want it reconnected. Five dollars a month for a year. Works for me. And I have been able to see the Red Sox play the series.

This afternoon I decided that I would pull out the stops and go get junk food for the game tonight. I am well stocked now. While I was at the store, there were a bunch of young guys also shopping for snacks. They were apparently going to a Red Sox party and were all dressed up in Red Sox gear with face paint besides. Listening to them talk, I was reminded again that I seriously mispronounce Red Sox with my native upstate New York clipped accent.

The proper way to say it is Red Sawwx. Rather guttural, actually. But that’s the Boston way. Gets more complicated and colorful the closer to New Hampshire you get. I stand no chance of ever being able to reproduce that pronunciation. But I can say Red Sawwx. Go Sawwx!
