Fancy bird
My desk is right next to the sliding glass doors which lead to the deck and most of the bird feeders. All I have to do is swivel my chair a little bit and there they all are. I swiveled my chair a few minutes ago and I caught quite a fancy bird in the act. Check out that bushy tail. He’s my most frequent visitor.
Word is spreading. The birds that have shown up to eat in the last three days include chickadees, nuthatches, gold finches, juncos, tufted titmice, one lonely little downy woodpecker, and one unspecified female finch. The latter was bopping around beneath the green tarp on top of the woodpile and I couldn’t catch a clear look at her. And then Abbie hurled herself against the door in all her excitement and all the birds left. Abbie is not going to survive this winter if she doesn’t calm down.
Updated: Interesting observation. My first blue jay arrived several minutes ago. It sat on the deck railing squawking its head off. For a long while. Just bounced up and down squawking as if its life depended on it. And then...suddenly...out of the blue...seven blue jays swooped in from a neighboring hedgerow of dense pine trees. I guess we know what the first blue jay was communicating. Must have been those peanuts I just put out.
