Doing business with the PO again

Apparently, I have a thirst for adventure because I’ve changed my mailing address again. The private post office box at the UPS store, in the next town over, comes up due for renewal tomorrow and I’ve decided to let it expire. It used to be convenient for me to visit it once a week. Now, being a Netflix customer, I find myself driving over there much more often and the miles and gasoline add up quickly. Having a mailbox at the end of my street is, unquestionably, more convenient and environmentally friendly.

Looks as if we have a new customer service supervisor at our main post office. This is encouraging. I discovered, this afternoon, that he is friendly. He smiles. He laughs. He likes his job. He’s very unlike the previous supervisor who considered it a grand imposition on his time and territory if one walked into his domain with a question or a need. That led me to think that perhaps, this time around, having my mail delivered to my home address won’t be an exercise in torture. We also have a new mail carrier who is equally friendly. Even though I haven’t picked up my mail at the end of the street in several years, he still waves and passes the time of day with a smile—unlike the previous mail carrier who hated his job and everyone associated with it. I spent more time chasing my mail down at the main post office than I did collecting from my mail box when he was the carrier. He was terribly temperamental. I think it might work out this time.

At least that’s my initial impression. I have to contact the post office again tomorrow to find the fellow who doles out the keys to the mailboxes at the end of the street. If all goes well, I should have a key in hand by the end of the day tomorrow. I’m not counting my chickens yet, but that’s the plan. We will see.

On another positive note, the PO Customer Service supervisor told me that, yes indeed, I can have more than one address if I desire. If I decide to rent a private local mailbox for certain mail deliveries, I can do so without a hitch in my regular mail delivery. “We are here to serve,” he said. Imagine that.

On an unrelated note, we have an overcast and damp day here. There has been rain! Actually, more like a constant mist. But it has been enough to make some green grass sprout up through the endless thicket of brown. We’re supposed to have more showers through tomorrow night, too. I had begun to forget what a rainy day looked like. When one is starved for rain, a misty cloudy day is beautiful.
