I wonder if they’re going to Fort McCoy—it’s near Sparta, Wisconsin, and a major National Guard training facility. It’s where I did all my R.O.T.C. field training way back when.
I hope you’ll be spared the wicked storms while Guard is deployed, and I hope they’ll be spared wicked effects of service in Iraq.
Nice post.
Hey, thanks gentlemen.
Pablo, I probably shouldn’t spoil it by saying that partisan thoughts were roiling in my brain? ;)
dk - yes, they were going to Wisconsin, so if Fort McCoy is the only Guard training place in Wisconsin, then that’s where they are now.
I would, of course, also wish that we are spared any wicked storms, but I really wish the Guard unit would just come home. Now.
I’ve been thinking for a long time now that forfeiting our service members’ lives to IEDs, daily...weekly...monthly...yearly...is about the most egregious waste of life and training and skill that we could conjure. Sending these people over there strikes me as being just more of the same with the strong likelihood of the same results. Someone should pay for this kind of stupidity (ie: A poor ability to understand or to profit from experience).

It’s posts like this one that show that one does not have to support the war to support the warrior. You really made this post human without the need to be partisan. It’s posts like this one that keep bringing me back to your blog. Thanx!
