Gas prices and a thermocoupler
I finally figured out how to get into the pilot light on the hot water heater. I managed to light it just fine. But it wouldn’t stay lit. I let the plumbing company know (and jogged their memory a little bit). They said someone would be out very shortly. Honest. Like...around 4:00ish. A little after 4:00 the nice plumber person called and said he thought it was only fair to let me know that he was now on overtime and it would cost me $100 an hour (or any part, thereof) for his labor. Maybe I’d prefer him to show up in the morning, instead. I said, “I’ll see ya tomorrow.”
And off I went to do errands and buy some gasoline at today’s prices before they go up again tomorrow.
I know that we aren’t paying nearly as much as a lot of other people around the country, but it’s still high enough to cause discomfort. While I filled up, I was surrounded by HUGE SUVs and there weren’t very many smiling faces. Lots of furrowed brows, though.
Anyhoo, just as I finished filling my itty bitty car, my cell phone rang. ‘Twas the plumbing company. They’d decided that since I called this morning and it took them all day to send a technician to my house, they’d waive the overtime charge. He was on his way. Might even be there already. I flew home and we arrived at the same time. Whew.
He just left and it wasn’t exactly cheap, but it could have been worse. Now I have a bright, shiny new thermocoupler. Hot showers and clean dishes tonight! Whoo!
