Cider Press Hill

One of those days

It was destined to be one of those mornings. I should have crawled out of the other side of my bed. I woke up cranky for no discernible reason and it went downhill from there.

First thing I did was bring in the hummingbird feeder to clean it. After I’d refilled it, I screwed the thing back into the base and the threaded part of the glass base snapped off. I guess I twisted too hard.

So that meant a trip to the store to buy a new one. This isn’t as pretty as my broken one, but a hummingbird certainly couldn’t miss the red on it.

While there, I picked up another pretty one for the front porch. This one is copper and a bit more formal looking.

As soon as I’d finished making my purchases, I ambled back to the car and realized I’d locked my keys in the car. That’s an old trick I haven’t pulled in a long time. Well, that took some time and $$ to straighten out. My car is supposed to be thief resistant and indeed it’s also locksmith resistant.

When I came home, Abbie raced off upstairs and I found my beautiful new Peace Lily plant on the floor with tattered leaves.

I filled the new feeders and managed to spill a generous amount of RED sugar water on my WHITE living room carpet as I was passing through. Oh joy.

Yep, I definitely got out of bed on the wrong side this morning. Everyone in this house is on notice that one more false move turns them into toast. Meanwhile, I think I should just sit in this chair and ignore the urge to cut the grass. Doesn’t exactly seem like a propitious day for it.

And yet. I realized....

My little problems and annoyances turn up looking inconsequential when compared to the astonishing destruction (slide show) wrought by the huge tornado in Kansas last week. I still have a community surrounding me. I still have a car. I still have a house to spill things on. I still have a chair to sit in and a lawn to mow. And I even still have a cat able to chew on my plants.

That makes me feel very fortunate and sent me to make a contribution to the American Red Cross. For the people who would love to still have my petty annoyances.

Kind of puts things back into perspective.
