I love the blog that you have. I was wondering if you would link my blog to yours and in return I would do the same for your blog. If you want to, my site name is American Legends and the URL is:
www.americanlegends.info
If you want to do this just go to my blog and in one of the comments just write your blog name and the URL and I will add it to my site.
Thanks,
David
I’ve been mowing grass for 6 weeks now. No sympathy!! Why not post a picture of the slope, maybe that would help get ideas coming.
Just wanted to point out that, THAT WASN’T ME. I’m already linked. (insert smug grin here).
Just started mowing a couple weeks ago. Time to go rent the dethatcher again. Going to re-seed this year, and hope that things thicken up later on. My biggest problem is the lawn-potholes that seem to have sprung up over the last couple of years. I’m going to break an ankle one of these days.
I really like the idea of a rock garden with a big old rock. I used to have one of those at a former house and it was not only pretty, but it was easy to take care of.
I think I will have to make some grass grow, though. The area is just too big to turn it all into a rock garden or other kind of garden. I think I can cut the grass area down to about half.
Yesterday I spoke with one of the neighbors who has a combo garden and yard out front. I wondered how they’ve managed to get their grass growing so lushly. He said they’d put down about 5 inches of topsoil. I don’t remember that at all. I must have somewhere else that week.
Maybe that’s the solution. My area is as flat as a pancake, so it wouldn’t be difficult to spread the topsoil and get some grass growing in it. Doing that would probably also make it easier to mark off areas for plantings at the same time.
I think that’s my best option. Nothing wants to take root in sand. Tender roots cook in the sand before they have a chance to thrive.
Well, that’s a big project. One among several slated for this year.
Harry, I’d take a picture, but putting it out there for the whole world to see is too embarrassing. I mean, that area is just so horribly deficient that I don’t even want to publicly claim ownership of it.
Dave—I knew the other David wasn’t you. ;) About those holes in the yard...has someone in your household discovered the simple joys of digging in the dirt? It is fun, you know.

Why not a rock garden or something like the Japanese do with pebbles? A big rock as a focal point with a couple palmy type plants/trees in the bed/area.
