Cider Press Hill

Making progress

After 3 days of relatively warm temperatures, we’ve made some progress toward spring. The earth is emerging from beneath the snow. And the trees and shrubbery have acquired quite a reddish cast—much more pronounced than three days ago.

In this neighborhood, every yard is apparently its own distinct microclimate. My next door neighbor’s back yard is almost bare. My back yard is still completely covered with several inches of snow plus drifts. The snow is melting, but slowly on my patch of earth.

While I was outside a few moments ago, I noted that there was no birdsong in the air. Much as it has been most of the winter. It’s an eerie sound. There are trees around here...so where are the birds? What is it about this neighborhood that they’re avoiding? I miss them.
