First day of spring
This is what the first day of spring looks like from my living room. Check out all that green! Heh. It’s out there waiting. I just know it. That thought sustains me. Happy spring thoughts, anyway.
Today is the vernal equinox, or the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere. That’s a term that strangely thrills me. It’s so Latin and old and momentous sounding. Day and night are roughly equal in length today. For those of us tied into coastal concerns, this is the time of the highest and lowest spring tides. Fortunately, there are no coastal storms this year to make life really interesting. Tomorrow is also a banner day in which daylight will last longer than darkness. It’s enough to make a person (me) giddy.
So, melt already, snow. Your season is past. It’s time for all the green things to grow.
My recollections tell me that spring used to arrive earlier (always by Easter) when I was a kid. It seems to me spring was longer with milder temperatures. Now we seem to jump right from winter into summer. Maybe this year we’ll have more than a drive-by spring.
I wish you cool mornings and temperate days well into April. That’s probably not in the cards. Not that we can’t wish for it.

Hey the blinds are up!
Ya know it seems that I remember running around in March in a T-shirt when I was younger. And most definitely trying to get the first bit of my summer tan during April vacation (except the one year we had a blizzard, 80-81 I think it was).
I caught a little bit of Chronicle last night and they said that the flowers and such bloom a week earlier than a decade ago. ??????? Doesn’t seem that way to me!

And ya know I really wouldn’t mind if it rained for a few days but, only right now this week, to get rid of all that snow!

Yep, the blinds are up. I put them up the week before the lad came home. I like them. They make the living room look larger, too. I think I’m done with fussy window treatments. For a while, anyway.
I just want the snow to melt, any way possible. It’s warm out today (twenty degrees above freezing, at least) and it is melting a little.
