Waiting sounds like it might be a good idea if she told you that you could get a better deal in a couple of months lol. Maybe call your now carrier and tell them the deal you can get and see if they can beat or match it first?
I have had DSL and cable internet and I can’t say that I have noticed much difference between them.
LOL my word is choice.
Until FIOS gets to this town, Verizon can’t beat Comcast’s product. And I’ve talked until I’m blue in the face about dropping the price of the DSL to reflect what they’re giving me. Drives me nuts that I’m paying for 1.5 Mbps and consistently getting half or less, which is what the next lower tier is supposed to provide. But if I switched to the next lower tier, they tell me my internet would be even slower that it is now. What a deal. They really can’t improve my internet speed because I’m too far away from the switching point or CO or whatever they call it.
dk - I used to have Comcast, but their customer service reeked. I hear that things have changed in the interim. They’re fighting for customers now and they don’t have the area sewn up the way they used to. And it’s going to get worse for them as Verizon brings FIOS internet and tv online in more communities. According to current customers, Comcast is much more more accommodating than they used to be.
As for television, I’m more of an appointment viewer than sit down and see what’s on viewer. That’s why I’ve enjoyed TiVo so much. But I’ve recently discovered that nearly everything I like to watch is available for viewing online now. I’ve been enjoying that and it’s making me a little more convinced that I don’t really need cable tv or satellite. I’m still not totally convinced, but I’m getting there.
I think a Netflix or similar subscription service would be of more value to me than cable television. I’ve looked into Netflix and Blockbuster. They’re both similar, but Blockbuster does allow for video returns/exchanges at their stores for those ‘can’t wait’ moments.
So many decisions.
LOL I watched my fav’s online this week. I was too into my book to want to stop for one show (plus they repeat it on Fridays) and too tired to stay up for the other.

I’ve had digital cable and broadband service from Cox Communications for years now, and finally dropped Verizon for the telephone service as well. I haven’t done any price shopping, but think I’m getting a good deal (I know the telephone plan, which includes voice mail, unlimited long distance, etc.) is MUCH better than the Verizon deal I had. But, the best part is Cox cable’s customer service, which is outstanding. We switched here in Fairfax Co., VA, from Media General to Cox Comm five years ago (or thereabouts) and they’re constantly upgrading and adding services, with very few cost increases. My Internet speed is always super-fast, and I finally broke down and got a HDTV, which is wonderful. (Unlike you, I could easily give up the telephone but never the 300 channels I get—I know, I need to get a life).
I’ve never had DSL so I cannot comment firsthand, but as regulated “utilities” go, you can’t beat the customer service of Cox. (And, BTW, I have no vested interest personally in Cox Cable whatsoever.)
