Cider Press Hill

Sick kid

After just having gotten off the phone with the lad, I can say with certainty that Spring Break isn’t going all that well. He’s really sick and sounds terrible. He asked if I’d make a doctor’s appointment for either tomorrow or Wednesday morning. That’s a sure sign that he feels wretched. Sounds to me as if he never shook the flu that he had a month ago.

I think in addition to the all the rest of the items on my to do list is a trip to the pharmacy to stock up on vitamins for the kid. At least that’ll help offset the typically crummy college diet and maybe keep him a little healthier. I have a feeling we’ll be adding a prescription of antibiotic to that because, by the sounds of things, he may be quite well walking around with the beginnings of pneumonia. Not that he’s doing much walking around. Between medicine, sleep, and good food, he’ll perk up soon.

It’s been quite a while since I’ve nursed a sick child back to health, but I’ll tell ya, he sounded very much in need of some serious pampering and sounds a whole lot like he’s very amenable to the idea. My “oh honey” and “I’m so sorry, sweetie” more or less had the effect of turning him into a seven year old who wants Mom to brush the hair off his forehead and tuck him in. That’s when you know they really feel rotten. It’s not how any of us expected spring break to go, but it’s a good thing he has the down time to devote to getting well again. Gotta recharge those batteries and load him up with healthy stuff.

And meanwhile, here at the homestead, the back door is wide open and warm spring breezes have been wafting in for the past few hours. Which seems out of place with a foot of snow still on the ground, but who’s complaining. This is beeyootiful.
