Cider Press Hill

Whine, whine.....

I’m still thawing out from yesterday, slowly. By the time I went to bed my teeth were practically chattering and I threw on an extra blanket and snuggled up with a hot water bottle and my snuggly kitty. And I still woke up cold. And that’s after building a screaming, roaring fire AND turning up the thermostat on the furnace late in the evening. It’s pretty obvious that I am not well adapted to arctic weather, despite having lived in the northeast my entire life.

It’s now 21° outside and it feels like a heat wave. How sad is that?!

On the bright side (I’m reaching for one), with the way the wind howled and clawed at the house yesterday, I found a whole new array of air leaks in this house. I’ve mapped them on paper and, over the course of summer, will relentlessly caulk, seal, insulate, and plug them up. This place was like the deck of a ship last night with bracing arctic currents zephyring past my nose until it almost broke off.

We still have another one of these arctic blasts coming on Thursday and, by then, I may be nothing more than a slab of ice propped up in a corner someplace. I’m now officially over winter. I Want Spring!
