Most of the packages even tell you the risks of using the bulbs in dimmer lights and 3 way lamps unless specifically made for them. A couple of weeks ago I found candelabra-type bulbs that are specifically for dimmer lamps at Home Depot. They can be used in regular lamps, too, but I put a couple in my chandelier-ish fixture and they work great. They’re not terribly attractive, but I have mini lampshades on that fixture anyway, so doesn’t matter. I’m assuming that those bulbs made specifically for dimmer fixtures are okay? Or is this report about the CFL dimmer bulbs?
Well, here’s the story I saw on our local news. Looks like the ones specifically designed for dimmers/3-ways are fine, just hard to get.
I went to the microwave oven site. I think just reading about those things is enough for me!
I have no recollection of skinny dipping with that woman, your Honor.
Oh dear, I have some (and have over the years) in three way lamps! There is only one or two that are used for any length of time during the night. I am thinking maybe I should change them lol. Now that I know this info, it would be just my luck lol.
Oh and Kate. I am afraid to take a good look at my throat! Denial is a wonderful thing
We are all pretty much sick here, ugh. And E is the one that started it! We have a snow day here today woo hoo. Two sick parents and a snow day....... I wonder who will be the surviver at the end of the day lol.
We’re trying for mud season today, Dave. Rain is coming down or coming past sideways. Wind is raging and snow is melting and there is a puddle in my basement. I hope it doesn’t turn into a torrent.
Pablo...yes you do. Fess up!
Cassie, I agree. On the other hand, if I had a very old microwave that I didn’t need, it would be fun to experiment, but I’m very fond of my one and only microwave.
J, get that throat checked out if it isn’t better by tomorrow morning. And if I had to guess, I’d say you will be the last one standing by the end of today. ;)
Linkmeister, I read the article and it’s a good warning to broadcast. I don’t know about your neck of the woods, but the Home Depot here has a large selection of compact fluorescent bulbs that also include the dimmers and the 3-ways. They also have some that are suitable for outdoor lighting and for recessed ceiling lights. The dimmers were about $6 and the 3-way bulbs were about $7. Not too bad for a bulb that lasts for years.

Did you see the report that says you shouldn’t use the long-life fluorescent bulbs in fixtures with dimmers? Also only use ones that are specifically designed to be used in 3-way lamps, otherwise you risk fire.
That caused me to go look to see what lamps have what kind of bulbs.
