Since I re-stacked my wood, I’ve also had a problem with starting a fire. The wood that’s now on top used to be toward the bottom and I think it absorbed a lot of moisture from the ground. I’ve brought a car load into the house to let it dry out and I’m running the furnace today.
Yes, I plan to compost. I started a compost pile last year, but it’s not a very useful one at the moment because I dumped a lot of wood chips in it. They will compost down after a couple of years. I’ll build another, more compact one that I’ll use for kitchen scraps and non-woody weeds and some grass clippings. I made compost for several years in other places and my tried and true method is to keep piling stuff on top and once a week or so, I stick the pitchfork in and mix it up. It makes beautiful humus fairly quickly.
One of my compost piles, a couple of houses ago, sprouted and grew some of the most robust and delicious potatoes I’ve ever eaten. That was an unexpected bonus.
What a sweet idea to share with your neighbors who can’t have a garden plot. I hadn’t even thought about asking my landlord about that. I just sort of planned on doing it. Hmm.

Why Spring? You could be flirting with me instead…
I think I had an improper stack somehow this year. Everything about 1/2 way down burned fine. We’re in the second half of the pile, and it’s being a pain to start. Then again, what was on top was what I split myself. The already split stuff was on the bottom. No idea if that had anything to do with it, though.
I’ve been contemplating a garden for some time, so I have to ask, do you plan to compost? If so, what method?
